LOVING PEOPLE, LOVING JESUS

Academics and Class Curriculum

Saint Patrick’s Preschool promotes physical, social, emotional and cognitive development with age appropriate activities. The school uses a theme-based curriculum. Each week has a different theme on which lessons are built. Daily lessons include shape, color, letter and number recognition, weather, calendar, along with other age appropriate instruction.

2 Year Olds: Learn social skills such as sharing, taking turns and being away from mommy. Develop their gross motor skills by playing outside and playing with toys and instruments. They develop fine motor skills by painting, coloring and using other art materials. Develop self awareness skills, patience and good manners along with a basic knowledge of colors, shapes, numbers and letters.

3 Year Olds: Expanding social skills to small group play and enhance self-esteem. Language is encouraged through reading, music and show and tell activities. There is reinforcement of colors, shapes and more in-depth knowledge of letters and numbers through letter and number recognition games and play. Gross motor skills are developed through outdoor play and music. Fine motor skills are developed with stringing beads, puzzles and other manipulatives along with pencils, crayons and other art materials.

Kindergarten readiness is a primary focus in the 4-year-old classrooms. Children will be able to recognize numbers (at least to 20) and all letters of the alphabet. They will be able to write their name, know their address and understand classroom etiquette.

4 Year Old: Activities are designed to promote phonetic awareness, reading readiness, letter recognition, sound and symbol relationships along with comprehension and memory skills. Concepts in math include number recognition, patterns, one-to-one correspondence, sorting and classifying. Along with continued development of gross and fine motor skills, including writing and of course, play!
